- (SPOILERS)* Mather is Meira Dynam's best friend and the son of Sir and Alysson.
Appearance[]
Mather is said to have white hair and blue eyes, as is typical for Winterians. His arms are covered in scars from different battles (mentioned by Meira in Frost like night).
Snow like Ashes[]
At the beginning of Snow like Ashes, Mather is believed to be the son of Hannah and Duncan Dynam. He is to become the next king of Winter. He has feelings for Meira but hides them very well causing Meira to believe he feels nothing for her except being childhood friends. After the attack of the five spring soldiers on the refugees' camp in the Rania Plains, William tells Mather to get to Cordell and tell King Noam that he accepts the offer he was offered 14 years ago of marrying Meira to the Crown Prince of Cordell, Theron. Mather does as he is told and but when he sees Meira that night at the ball, she is extremely angry at him for giving her away. The next day, he meets Meira and Theron in the training area and asks Meira to talk to him and she does so reluctantly. He shows her a map and explains how it makes the Cordellian soldiers proud to be who they are. Then Mather somewhat tells her that he has had feelings for her and that he never believed William when he told him that he was too good for her. Meira can't accept this now and they are interrupted by Theron who wants to spar with Mather. Mather accepts and beats Theron stopping only when Meira gets in between them. He gets scolded by William for picking a fight with the prince of Cordell. He is next seen when the refugees confront Meira in the library. He is avoiding Meira's eyes and is the one who stops William from going after her when she runs away. When the news is found out about Noam's betrayal, he says he will give himself over to Angra if it means none of the other Winterians will be harmed. He is punched by Sir for even suggesting such a stupid idea.
Ice Like Fire
Horrified and scared, the Winterians (who have recently returned to Winter after their capture in Spring) are very vulnerable. He is also jealous of Meira being with Theron but also blames himself for not caring about Meira when she was abducted by Spring. In his misery, he finds Phil, a winterian who has returned from spring. Phil understands how Mather is feeling and they both relate and get drunk. When Mather goes to the camp, he finds many people like Phil who are young and don't know how to fit in the new world. He feels like helping them out because he feels as lost as them since before he was a king and now he was nothing. After getting drunk, he meets Meira by climbing through the balcony. He acts stupid in front of her and Meira becomes angry and tells him to go away. Mather storms out but blames himself for acting so miserable. Soon he finds out that Meira is leaving for the tour of the world with Theron. He feels bad because the last time talked to her had been a mess. After Meira leaves, Cordell takes control of Winter. It is later issued that winterians have to stop all kinds of training. Mather is angry when he finds out that William has accepted. He returns to Phil and his group of friends. They tell him that they will not let Cordell take over them and they decide to smuggle weapons and secretly train. They form the Thaw. After a few days of training, Alysson finds out about their secret training and decides to help them out by smuggling more goods. But she gets caught and Cordellans kill her. Mather, grief-stricken finds out that Cordell has decided to attack them and he grabs Alysson's body and rushes to William to find him fighting Cordellans. He makes a quick decision and leaves Alysson there and goes after Meira, warning her about the attack. The Thaw also accompanies him. On reaching Ventralli, he sees a summer vehicle and Simon's dead body and realises that something is definitely wrong. After a while, he finds Meira and tries to protect her from the Ventrallan queen. They go to the palace and they are confronted by Angra and all other monarchs who are taken by the Decay. The Thaw, Meira and Mather are put into a cell by Theron.
